Homebuying Classes

The Allston Brighton CDC's homeownership program assists low- and moderate-income homebuyers in overcoming obstacles to homeownership by providing homebuyer education, individual counseling, financial assistance, and access to financial and professional resources.

What We Cover:
Introduction to the mortgage process
How to qualify for a mortgage
How to deal effectively with credit issues
Managing debt/ budgeting
Shopping for a home
The home inspection
Legal aspects of a purchasing a home
What You Can Get:
Access to low-downpayment financing
Down payment and Closing grants for income-eligible homebuyers
Eligibility for Mass Housing, Soft Second and other low-interest rate mortgages
One-on-One assistance from homebuyer counselors
Support throughout the saving & purchasing process

Homebuying 101 in English -- 4-session class

This course will focus on all aspects of buying a home. Income-eligible graduates will receive between $1,000 and 3% of the purchase price for downpayment and closing cost when they purchase a home in Boston. In addition, they will be eligible for Fannie Mae, MHP’s SoftSecond and MassHousing loan programs and other low-interest rate loans in the state. Graduates will have access to low-dowpayment financing options for buyers of all income and free individual homebuying counseling.

The registration fee is $35 per person.
