Since 2001, Allston Brighton CDC has worked to increase
voter participation in Allston Brighton. We have received
funding from the Boston Foundation's Greater Boston Civic
Engagement Initiative, whose goal is to increase nonpartisan
voter registration and mobilization in low-income communities
and communities of color with low rates of voter participation.
In 2005 we wish to focus on voter and civic education
workshops, in which we can answer the question,
"why is it important to vote in a sheriff's race
or in a governor's council election?" If you are
interested in taking a workshop, or would like to volunteer
with us on voter participation issues, please contact
Juan
Gonzalez, 617.787.3874 x217 or Ava

Our past work includes:
 |
Voter canvassing
for the 2004 Elections, in partnership with
the Allston Brighton Healthy Boston Coalition. We
focused our voter registration efforts on Allston
Brighton's subsidized housing. We registered 52 new
voters and sponsored a forum on affordable housing. |
 |
Voter canvassing
for the 2003 Elections, in partnership with
the Allston Brighton Healthy Boston Coalition. We
registered 260 new voters and co-sponsored a candidates
debate for the Boston City Council At-Large race.
|
 |
Voter canvassing for
the 2002 Elections, in partnership with the
Allston Brighton Healthy Boston Coalition. We registered
over 100 new voters, provided workshops on the bilingual
education ballot question, co-sponsored two candidates’
debates for the Boston City Council.. |
 |
Campaigning on behalf
of the Community Preservation Act for the 2001 Elections.
This act would have generated state funds for housing,
open space, and the preservation of historic buildings.
We collected 2330 signatures, reached over 1500 voters
via phone banks, outreached to the Russian, Spanish,
and Chinese-speaking voting communities in Allston
Brighton, and organized extensive poll coverage in
all 14 Allston Brighton polls for Election Day. |
